The Zoo Miami, formally known as Miami Metro Zoo, is the oldest and largest zoo in Miami. Not only that, but it is the only tropical zoo in the entire continental U.S, making this zoo very hard to find. Opening in 1948, this zoo has grown to hold over 2,000 animals of 500 species and contain 740 acres of land. The zoo is very unique, featuring a monorail system, animals grouped from different continents, and innovative facilities for visitors, animals, and staff.
The Miami Seaquarium is the longest operating oceanarium in America, spanning 38 acres and attracting over 600,000 visitors a year. The aquarium houses many species such as fish, sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, and more. The park contains the oldest captive orca in the world, Lolita. Lolita is the biggest star in the park, living there for almost 40 years.
Although Orlando is not part of the Miami area, it is only a 4-hour drive right from Miami. Orlando is the most traveled destination in America for the theme parks, attractions, recreations, and more. Coral Castle is a stone structure that was built by Edward Leedskalnin near Homestead, where he used no machines. To this day, nobody knows how Edward moved tons of rock without machine assistance. Urban legend says that he lifted the rocks like “hydrogen balloons”, and also using magnetism and/or supernatural abilities. He used 1,100 tons of stone to form walls, furniture, decorations, and more.
Coconut Grove is a popular community in Miami, containing a myriad of attractions, shops, restaurants, and etc. to choose from. Many places in Coconut Grove feature heavy vegetation near the streets, which makes the area unique. Villa Versace is a posh mansion located in South Beach. The owner was Gianni Versace, the world-renowned clothes designer. In 1997, he got murdered right outside Villa Versace. Now, his legacy lives on with the extremely luxurious mansion, which features exotic decorations, furniture, and paintings. Villa Versace is now a very popular tourist attraction in Miami.
American Airlines Arena
American Airlines Arena is a stadium, which is located in downtown Miami. It combines great architecture with functionality to make a great stadium. The stadium is home to the Miami Heat, a very strong basketball team located in Miami. Also, the stadium holds concerts, events, and more.
The Miami River is a beautiful canal, which runs through the city of Miami and Downtown also. Taking a boat tour here is very nice, as you pass through the wonderful skyscrapers and buildings Miami has to offer. Not only that, but there is a Miami Riverwalk, which you can walk alongside the Miami River. On the Miami Riverwalk, there are many boutiques, cafes, and shops.
South Beach is very well known for the beaches, people, and entertainment. South Beach can be considered the mecca in entertainment, as they have tons of fine dining, nightclubs, shops, cafes, and more. Also, the beaches are extremely popular in South Beach and are know to contain very beautiful people. South Beach also has several luxurious hotels, making the area a very good place to stay.
